Bessie Moo is a big, squishy ray of sunshine with an adorable smile permanently stretched across her face. This sweet girl has perfected the art of enjoying life at a slower pace and believes happiness can be found anywhere there is a soft place to nap, a tasty snack nearby, and someone willing to love on her. She is equal parts couch potato, lazy hippo, and affectionate best friend, all wrapped up in one incredibly gentle package. Watch her video and fall in love with that precious smile: Bessie is approximately 7 years old and weighs around 80 pounds. We believe she may be a Pittie mix, but with animal rescue, breed and age are always a mystery and our best guesses. She may be a big girl, but everything about her is gentle, from the way she accepts treats to the way she settles beside her people and soaks up affection. Bessie absolutely loves people and is happiest when she has someone nearby to keep company. She does not need constant entertainment or a packed schedule to feel fulfilled. Give her a cozy spot to stretch out, plenty of affection, and a few snack breaks throughout the day, and homegirl will be perfectly content. She would make an amazing work-from-home companion, quietly relaxing nearby while you work and happily accepting love whenever you need a five-minute break. She is dog friendly and has done well with dogs who share her cool, calm, and collected energy. Bessie is not particularly playful and does not seek out companionship from other dogs. She is definitely more of a people’s dog than a dog’s dog. She is generally neutral around other dogs and has no issues passing them while out on walks. Although she can coexist with the right calm canine companion, we believe Bessie would be happiest as your one and only dog so she can soak up all the love and attention for herself. Bessie also met our house cat Biggie and was incredibly respectful around him. She did not attempt to chase him and was not bothered by Biggie jumping around or doing the unpredictable things cats sometimes do. Biggie also felt comfortable in her presence. We do not know whether Bessie has ever lived with a cat, and this was our first time observing her around one. If you have a cat in your home, we can arrange for Bessie to have a sleepover with a cat upon request. Just let us know! Bessie is crate trained and generally does well in her crate. She may whine a little when she first goes inside, but from what we have seen, she settles in. She has also shown us that she has wonderful house manners and understands where the appropriate potty places are. She does not bother much around the home and has not been destructive. All this girl really wants is a cozy place to lie down and people who will love on her. When it comes to food, Bessie Moo misses no meal! She loves treats and takes them very gently. So far, she has not shown much interest in toys. That could change once she feels completely settled in her forever home, but with her relaxed couch-princess personality, we have a suspicion that toys simply do not rank very high on her list of priorities. Snacks, naps, and affection are much more her speed. Because Bessie is so calm and low energy, we believe she has the potential to thrive in a residential apartment setting. A first-floor apartment would likely be the best and easiest option for her. She does not need intense exercise to be happy and is perfectly content hanging out at home and being the adorable house hippo she was born to be. She would also love a home with a backyard, not because she needs endless space to burn energy, because that is simply not who she is, but because she would probably enjoy porch sitting beside you, sunbathing on a beautiful day, and then heading back inside to enjoy the air conditioning. The most special thing about Bessie is how genuinely content she is simply being loved. Her happy smile, gentle nature, squishable cheeks, and relaxed personality make it nearly impossible to be around her without experiencing a serious case of cute aggression. At the end of the day, Bessie is looking for a soft place to land with people whose lifestyle is just as easygoing as hers. Give this sweet girl a cozy couch, plenty of love, and a lifetime supply of snacks, and she will happily spend her days reminding you that the very best parts of life are often the simplest ones.
