Meet Comet Luanne! She's a whirlwind with a heart of gold — think Luanne from King of the Hill, sweet, well-meaning, and occasionally a little scatterbrained, according to her foster parents. And true to her name, Comet is fast, fiery, and rare - this 1 year old Shepherd mix is confident, high-energy, and always ready for whatever fun comes next. Most importantly, Comet just wants to have fun — play, play and play some more. She's obsessed with her toys at home and lights up around other dogs, especially in spaces where she can run wild with a playful crew. She's the kind of dog who thrives on canine company and genuinely loves encouraging shy or insecure dogs to come out of their shells and join the fun — one of her foster mom's favorite things about her. That same playful streak comes out with her humans too, especially at night when she tends to get a second wind — her favorite move is what her foster family affectionately calls "corn cobbing," using her mouth to nibble and invite people into play. It's all in good fun and never aggressive, but it's something a new family should be ready to redirect, and keeping plenty of toys on hand has been a great way to shift her focus. That said, Comet's enthusiasm can run a little big for her own good. Her playful pushiness has earned her a correction from other dogs who aren't quite as game as she is. She'd do best with an adopter who can keep working with her on reading social cues and dialing back the pushiness, so all that spirited energy can settle into the confident, joyful playmate she has the potential to be. Interestingly, Comet is a completely different dog during the day. While living with her foster parents, who work from home, she's shown a calm, easygoing side — taking plenty of naps, entertaining herself with solo play, and periodically checking in on her people throughout the day. While she is not the most snuggle-y or affectionate dog right off the bat, she is gentle in how she carries herself around people in general: she's a total sweetheart with a soft spot for kids. Comet has spent the last 3 weeks free-roaming in her foster home alongside 2 confident cats and a 13-year-old Chihuahua, and has done well navigating that mixed household. Given her play style, she'd do best long-term with calm, avoidant cats who prefer to keep their distance rather than confident ones who might engage with her. As far as an in home dog companion, she would do best with dogs who want to play but keeping in mind that there will be corrections. Like in any environment, setting boundaries is healthy! Comet Luanne is a whole lot of heart wrapped up in a whole lot of energy — goofy, affectionate, and endlessly eager to bring the people and animals around her into her world of play. She's not a finished project; she's a work in progress with a foundation of pure sweetness, just waiting for someone willing to put in the time to help her channel all that spark. Give her the structure, patience, and playtime she craves, and Comet won't just fit into your life — she'll light it up. Comet is looking for: An active home that can match her high energy. Adopters willing to continue working with her on manners with other dogs and gentle redirection from mouthy play. A family with calm, avoidant cats (if any), dogs that will appropriately correct when needed and kids she can be gentle with. Bonus points for a playful canine friend to keep her company! Questions?
