You know those dogs that have one feature that's so adorable you can't help but laugh every time you look at them? For Lou Loomie, it's definitely the ears. They're hilariously oversized, somehow seem bigger than the rest of him, and give him the cutest, goofiest expression. But as funny as they are, they have some pretty serious competition because the moment you start petting this sweet boy, he completely melts into you. Between his giant ears, affectionate personality, and easygoing nature, Lou is the kind of dog that's incredibly easy to fall in love with. Watch his video and see him in action: Lou Loomie is believed to be a Lab/Aussie mix approximately 6 months old and currently weighs about 25lbs. He is a rescue dog and with any rescue, it’s always a mystery and we cannot guarantee breed or age. One of our favorite things about Lou is how balanced he is. He's not the type that's constantly bouncing off the walls looking for something to do, but he's also not going to spend all day sleeping on the couch either. If you want to go for a walk, he's ready. Feel like hanging out in the backyard for a little while? He's all in. Want to spend a quiet evening at home? He's perfectly happy doing that too. He seems to naturally adjust to whatever the day has in store, which makes him such an enjoyable dog to live with. When playtime is over, Lou's favorite place is wherever his people are. He's much more interested in affection than toys and has this wonderful habit of leaning and melting into you while you're petting him. He's one of those dogs that doesn't just enjoy affection. He completely soaks it up. If you're looking for a dog that genuinely loves being loved, Lou checks that box without a doubt. Lou is also dog friendly and enjoys the company of other dogs. If he's joining a home with canine siblings, we think he'll do best with confident adult dogs that are already established in the home. Dogs that are comfortable setting appropriate boundaries while still showing him the ropes will help him continue growing into the wonderful dog we know he's becoming. That said, he doesn't need another dog to be happy. He'd do just fine soaking up all the attention as an only dog too. He's doing really well with potty training and is successful about 85% of the time. Since he's still a young dog, he just benefits from getting outside a little more frequently than an adult dog would. Keeping him on a consistent schedule has helped him be very successful. And when it comes to motivation, Heirloom has it figured out: treats. He absolutely loves them. Treats are the way to his heart, his focus, and his willingness to learn. This makes him a fantastic candidate for training, because he’s eager, food-driven, and ready to work for those rewards. With consistency and positive reinforcement, he’s going to pick things up quickly and enjoy the process along the way. Lou is also crate trained. Like many dogs, he'll let you know he'd rather be out with you when you first leave, especially if he knows you're still home. He'll protest for a few minutes, but once he realizes it's time to settle down, he relaxes nicely. We actually think continuing crate training will be important for him because he's the kind of dog that thrives with structure, routine, and clear expectations. Because of that, we think Lou would do best with experienced dog owners who understand the importance of consistency and boundaries. He's not a difficult dog by any means, but he's the type that will continue to flourish with confident leadership. We'd also love to see him in a home with a backyard where he can stretch his legs, enjoy the fresh air, and spend time exploring. A semi-active family that enjoys getting out and about but also appreciates a relaxing evening at home would be a wonderful match for him. If you've been searching for a dog that's right in the middle of all the best things. Playful but calm, affectionate without being needy, and always happy to simply be part of whatever you're doing, we think Lou is going to steal your heart. Just don't be surprised if those ears win you over first. Questions?
