Lily Mae Bay | The Clever Little Climber with the Sweetest Hugs Lily Mae Bay has places to go, things to investigate, and apparently absolutely no reason to keep all four paws on the ground while doing it. Playful, inquisitive, incredibly smart, and wonderfully affectionate, Lily is a funny little adventurer with one particularly heart-melting talent: she gives hugs like a tiny human. Watch Lily and her siblings in action, then come right back to read more! At just 9 weeks old and approximately 9.8 lbs, Lily is a beautiful Lab/Black Labrador Retriever mix and one of four girls in her litter of five. Her mostly black coat has subtle brindle coloring similar to her brother Boones, along with a small white marking on her chest that gives this already gorgeous girl a little extra flair. Lily is a puppy who wants to figure things out. She's naturally inquisitive and interested in whatever is happening around her. Rather than simply waiting for the fun to come to her, Lily is ready to investigate—and if getting a better look requires a little climbing, she's already demonstrated that she's perfectly capable of handling that part herself. Lily is the playful climber of the litter, and that adventurous streak comes with a very smart little mind. She's alert, curious, and engaged with her surroundings. She's also food motivated and loves treats, giving her future family a fantastic tool for channeling all those puppy brains into positive training. But one of the most endearing things about Lily is the way she loves people. She's an affectionate girl, but her affection is gentle rather than overwhelming. She doesn't need to climb all over you demanding constant attention. Instead, she has this incredibly sweet way of coming close and soaking up love—and then there are those hugs. Lily will actually put herself against you and hug you almost like a little person would. It's funny, ridiculously precious, and exactly the kind of tiny moment that makes you melt before you even realize this puppy has completely won you over. She has a wonderful balance to her personality: investigate the world, make everyone laugh, climb something she probably didn't need to climb, come back for a gentle little hug, repeat. Lily and her siblings have also received an incredible start in foster care. They're growing up surrounded by people, young children, other dogs, and all the normal commotion of a busy family home. Their foster has young, energetic children herself, so running, playing, voices, and everyday household chaos are nothing unusual to these puppies. Their foster has intentionally introduced them to different noises, including rain and thunderstorm sounds and clanking food bowls, helping them become accustomed to a variety of experiences while they're young. Lily does wonderfully with young children and has shown no preference between men and women. She's getting plenty of canine socialization, too. Lily and her siblings adore their foster's energetic 7-month-old Goldendoodle, happily running and chasing along with her. They're also curious about the young Blue Lacy mix in the home, although their foster is appropriately taking those introductions slowly. The puppies haven't been introduced to cats yet, so any future feline friendships should begin with thoughtful introductions. For only nine weeks old, Lily already has some fantastic everyday foundations. She's kennel trained, generally quiet in her crate, and does great riding kenneled in the car. Potty training is going remarkably well for such a young puppy, although an occasional overnight accident can still happen while those tiny puppy bladders continue developing. Even bath time doesn't bother her. Lily and her siblings have plenty of experience being bathed and handle it wonderfully. Instead of trying to make a dramatic escape, they're considerably more interested in trying to drink the sink water. Apparently Lily can turn just about anything into an investigation. Like any puppy her age, Lily still has an entire lifetime of learning ahead of her. Her forever family will need to continue potty training, introduce leash skills and basic commands, provide appropriate outlets for chewing and play, and keep building on the wonderful socialization she's already received. And because Miss Lily Mae has already earned the title of resident climber, a little extra puppy-proofing probably wouldn't hurt either. There's something especially lovable about the combination this girl brings. She's smart without being serious, adventurous while still incredibly sweet, affectionate without being overbearing, and funny without even trying to be. One minute she's investigating her surroundings and figuring out what she can climb. The next, she's wrapped around you giving you one of those tiny human-like hugs. Lily Mae Bay is a clever little explorer with the gentlest heart—and if you're lucky enough to get one of her hugs, don't be surprised if you melt just as quickly as we did!
