Lucky Bigelow is 93 pounds of beautiful German Shepherd wrapped around one very gentle heart. Despite his impressive size, Lucky seems to think he is simply a big baby- and honestly, he is basically right. He is sweet, sensitive and easygoing, with a thoughtful nature. Go watch Lucky Bigelow | 93 Pounds of Gentle German Shepherd on YouTube and meet this gorgeous guy for yourself. His video also gives you a very accurate sense of scale. Lucky is estimated to be around six years old and weighs approximately 93 pounds. We believe he is a German Shepherd, although breed and age are always our best guesses with rescue dogs rather than guarantees. He is a handsome representative of the breed, with a striking presence and a much softer personality than his size might suggest. Lucky is currently fostered in a loving home with another dog and a cat, and he gets along wonderfully with both. He has also been introduced to a variety of dogs and has handled himself well. Lucky can be thoughtful and somewhat reserved during introductions, especially when there is a lot happening around him. Giving him a little time to observe and become comfortable allows his calm, gentle nature to shine. Once everyone has settled in, Lucky is perfectly content sharing space without needing to be the center of the action. He shares attention and toys appropriately, patiently waits his turn when treats are being handed out and respects clear communication from other dogs. We believe his most natural canine match would be a calm, confident female dog who is comfortable with his size. He would also be perfectly happy as the only dog, provided his people are ready to give him plenty of love and good company. Lucky also lives successfully with a cat and did well when introduced to our house cat. Because of his size and thoughtful nature, we believe his best feline match would be a calm, dog-savvy cat accustomed to sharing a home with large dogs. As always, slow introductions and appropriate boundaries will help everyone settle in comfortably. According to his foster, Lucky has great manners in the home. He is calm, easygoing, rides well in the car and even behaves nicely for bath time. He is not a high-energy dog, but he is still a German Shepherd and will benefit from regular walks, mental enrichment and a family that enjoys giving him a healthy amount of structure. He already demonstrates lovely leash skills and can settle into a heel with guidance. Lucky is polite and gentle with unfamiliar people but prefers calmer, quieter enviornments over busy overwhelming environments. Rather than reacting dramatically, he tends to become still, observe what is happening and take a few minutes to adjust, then he relaxes and accepts affection from the people around him. Because Lucky is anXL adult German Shepherd, we believe he would thrive with an adopter who has experience with large dogs and understands the thoughtful, sensitive side of the breed. His foster shared that he has done very well with young children in the past and is not an excitable or overly bouncy dog. Even so, his sheer size makes a family prepared to supervise interactions and teach respectful boundaries especially important. Lucky currently has an area of hair loss on his lower back caused by a skin allergy. It is cosmetic, is being treated and does not slow him down or affect the gentle, happy boy underneath. Lucky Bigelow is looking for a steady, loving home where he will be given the time and space to settle in at his own pace. In return, his family will gain a beautiful, loyal companion with excellent house manners and a gentle spirit. If Lucky sounds like the big baby your home has been missing, apply to adopt him today.
