If you’re looking for a goofy, affectionate, long legged playmate with a heart as big as his personality, say hello to Ouzo! Ouzo is a handsome 1 year old, approximately 40 lb grey and white boy who is believed to be a Pit Bull/Labrador Retriever mix, but as always in rescue, his breed is our best guess. Whatever his DNA may say, we know one thing for sure: Ouzo is one seriously lovable guy! This lanky young man is basically a professional friend maker. He absolutely LOVES other dogs and plays wonderfully with his canine friends. He’s particularly gentle with smaller dogs and kids, making him a sweet and playful companion for a family looking for a dog who enjoys having a social life. Ouzo is happiest when he has a furry friend to romp around with, and after a good play session, he is more than happy to kick back and enjoy some downtime. And when there isn’t a dog around to entertain him? No problem! Ouzo is perfectly capable of keeping himself busy with his favorite bones and toys. He’ll happily chew, toss, and play for long stretches, although he does like to make sure his humans are involved, too. One of his favorite games is bringing his prized toy over to his person and playing right at their feet. Basically, he wants his own fun and his favorite people close by. Ouzo has already mastered some of the things that make life with a dog so much easier. He’s house trained, crate trained, non destructive, and doesn’t struggle with separation anxiety. He can enjoy his own space and entertain himself without turning your house into a renovation project! Being just one year old, Ouzo still has plenty of that wonderful young dog enthusiasm. He has energy to spare and would absolutely thrive with a family who enjoys an active lifestyle. A securely fenced yard would be a dream for this long legged boy, giving him room to stretch those legs and get his zoomies out. And if you have another playful, dog friendly pup? Even better! Ouzo thinks doggy friends are the greatest invention ever. On walks, Ouzo has a slightly different idea about personal space than most people do. When he spots another dog, his first thought is generally, “FRIEND!!! CAN WE GO PLAY?!?” He can become frustrated when his leash prevents him from saying hello, so he’ll need a little help remembering that not every dog we see on a walk is an automatic playdate. He’s simply an enthusiastic social butterfly who hasn’t quite learned that sometimes we keep moving. With continued leash work and some thoughtful management around other dogs, he can keep building those skills. Ouzo is also a curious guy who likes to keep tabs on what’s happening around him. He notices doors, bells, music, people, dogs, and all the little sounds of daily life. Big boy would thrive best in a home with a nice routine and a yard and some breathing room would give Ouzo the perfect balance of activity, play, and relaxation. Ouzo’s foster dad has been working on his recall when the world gets especially exciting, he can keep on keeping in and continue to enjoy his walks and day. So much to see!! At the end of the day, Ouzo is a sweet, silly, affectionate young dog who wants to have fun and be with his people. He’s playful without being destructive, loving without being clingy, social with dogs, gentle with little ones, and perfectly happy to spend an afternoon chewing his favorite bone at your feet. He’s not looking for a perfect person. He’s looking for the right person. Someone who appreciates a young dog with personality, enjoys an active lifestyle, has room for those spectacularly lanky legs, and is ready to help him continue growing into the amazing adult dog he’s meant to be. If your idea of the perfect dog includes a goofy best friend, a professional toy bringer, a dog park enthusiast, and a 40 lb bundle of lanky love, Ouzo would love to meet you! Questions?
