Meet Paisley May, a tiny 1-year-old Chihuahua weighing just 9 pounds, with a beautiful black coat and a story that is still being written. Paisley is a little bit of a diamond in the rough right now—and we mean that in the very best way. After spending much of her young life as a stray, Paisley has recently entered the rescue and is adjusting to a completely different world. New places, new routines, new people, and new dogs are a lot for one tiny girl to take in, so Paisley likes to give herself a little time to figure things out before deciding everything is okay. When unfamiliar dogs enter her space, Paisley may initially bark at them as she gets her bearings. So far, that appears to be the extent of it. Once she begins feeling comfortable, we see glimpses of a playful little girl with what appears to be a gentle play style. Right now, Paisley finds a lot of confidence in her buddy Sassy May. During this big transition into rescue life, having a familiar friend nearby seems to help Paisley feel a little braver. We believe that with time, positive experiences, patient guidance, and continued training, Paisley can keep building the confidence she needs to navigate the world more independently. She simply isn't there quite yet—and that's okay. Paisley is also currently receiving care through the rescue for a skin issue on the top of her head. It may be noticeable when you first see her, but she has now been admitted into the rescue and is getting the attention and treatment she needs. Her appearance today isn't necessarily what this little girl will look like once she's had some time, care, and healing. Think of Paisley as a work in progress. Underneath the uncertainty and the little patch that's still healing is a beautiful 9-pound girl beginning an entirely new chapter of her life. She's learning about safety. She's learning about friendship. She's learning that people can take care of her. And little by little, we're getting to see more of the dog Paisley can become. Our on-site trainers are dedicated to each dog’s growth and we enjoy seeing their progress! We go above and beyond to ensure every animal receives exceptional care. Hard costs for a healthy dog range from $804-$920; heartworm-positive dogs or those needing specialized care can exceed $2,000+.
