River Forest is pure happiness wrapped up in one handsome, wiggly package. With his huge smile, fun-loving personality, and contagious zest for life, River has a way of turning even an ordinary day into an adventure. He approaches everything with enthusiasm, whether he is racing around the backyard, proudly carrying his favorite squeaky toy, or soaking up affection from the people he loves. We believe he may be a Pittie mix, but with animal rescue, breed and age are always a mystery and our best guesses. River is an incredibly sweet, affectionate, and people-loving pup. He is happiest when he is included in whatever his humans are doing and has so much love to give the lucky person or family who chooses him. He is loyal, eager to please, and the type of dog who will form a strong bond with his people. If one word could describe River, it would simply be “happy.” He is happy to play, happy to explore, happy to learn, and especially happy when he has someone nearby to share it all with. This playful boy absolutely loves his toys, especially anything that squeaks. Tug-of-war is one of his favorite games, but he is also great at entertaining himself when his people are busy. Watching him happily toss around a toy or parade through the house with his newest treasure is guaranteed to make you smile. There is truly never a dull moment when River is around, and his joyful personality brings an energy to the home that is impossible not to love. River is dog friendly and currently lives in a multi-dog foster home with dogs who have a variety of personalities. Although he has done well living around other dogs, we believe he would be happiest as the one and only fur baby in his forever home. River would love nothing more than to soak up all the affection and attention for himself, and don’t worry, this boy has enough personality and love to equal five dogs combined. He will have no trouble filling both your home and your heart all on his own. River would also do best in a home without cats. He is a smart boy who enjoys learning and wants to make his people happy. River already knows basic commands such as “sit,” walks well on a leash, and listens when his name is called. He will be such a fun dog to continue training and teach new tricks. River will thrive with adopters who are committed to providing consistent structure, clear boundaries, and continued training. He is deeply loyal and blossoms when he has confident, loving leadership to guide him. River is crate trained, and his foster says he does wonderfully in his kennel. He is also considered fully potty trained and has shown excellent house manners in his foster home. For a young dog who is still full of playful puppy energy, he already has such a wonderful foundation. A semi-active home with a backyard would be River’s dream. He would love having space to run, stretch his legs, investigate every interesting smell, and play with his favorite toys. He also has all the makings of an incredible adventure partner for someone who enjoys hiking, exploring nature, or simply getting outside and experiencing new things together. River has spent time around children as young as 5 years old and did well, but because his excitement can occasionally send his happy body bouncing into someone, he would be best suited for a family with older children who can provide structure and understand his playful energy. He has so much potential to become a wonderful family companion with people who are ready to meet him where he is and help him continue growing into his very best self.
